A 19th-century botanist buried his greatest discovery in these gardens. Someone else is looking for it.
Darwin, 1878. Maurice Holtze arrives from Germany with a mission from the South Australian government: prove the Top End can grow commercially viable crops. But Holtze discovers something far more extraordinary — the Territory's existing plants are ancient, resilient, and potentially world-changing.
He starts a secret catalogue of species he believes could transform agriculture. He calls it the Seed Vault. When Holtze dies in 1896, the official catalogue goes to Adelaide. The Seed Vault vanishes.
You are a Botanical Intelligence Officer. You've received a coded tip-off that the Vault still exists — hidden somewhere in the gardens Holtze built over a century ago. Follow his planting logic, decode his classification system, and find it before a rival collector does.
This experience takes place outdoors in the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. Paths are generally flat and well-maintained but may be uneven in places. Wear enclosed shoes and bring water — Darwin is hot and humid year-round.
Stay on marked paths. Be aware of wildlife including birds, lizards and — in the wet season — the possibility of snakes. Do not touch or remove any plants, seeds, or garden materials.
